With its lakeside location, no other lodge in the Tambopata region offers such accessibility to giant otters. Lake Sandoval is the only full-service lodge located in the wildlife-rich Tambopata National Reserve. With a variety of lake and forest fauna. Located on a cliff overlooking Sandoval Lake, this 2 lodge was built to protect the giant otters and other endangered wildlife that inhabit the lake and surrounding forest.
Lake Sandoval is a «dipper lake» formed generations ago by the shifting waters of the Madre de Dios River, and is considered by rainforest specialists to be the finest and most attractive lake in the Peruvian rainforest. This particular lake has one of the largest and most accessible populations of endangered Giant Otters in Peru, huge Black Caiman and 10-foot long Paiche, the largest scaled freshwater fish in the world. Once widespread throughout South America, the Giant Otter was hunted nearly to extinction and is now one of the continent’s most vulnerable mammals. However, Sandoval Lake has a thriving and healthy population, and from the comfort and stability of the catamarans, guests have the opportunity to view these powerful predators while fishing and frolicking in the lake, as well as a host of colorful birds.
Sandoval Lake’s location provides instant access to the lake’s wildlife during the cool golden light hours after sunrise and before sunset. No other lodge in the region has such a privileged location, nor does it offer unique access at all times of the day to observe wildlife on an Amazonian lake.
Drift through a 100-foot-high flooded forest of Mauritia palms as large groups of Red-bellied Macaws swirl overhead in a cacophony of sounds. Watch playful brown capuchin and titi monkeys as they scour the palms along the edge of the lake, and groups of 50 or more squirrel monkeys as they chatter and hop through the trees above. And after the sun sets, experience the lake’s nightlife under a star-filled sky as the Black Caiman emerge to hunt in the lake.

Expert naturalist guides bring the rainforest to life with vivid explanations of the ecology and natural history of the area as you explore the trails in search of the six species of monkeys and hundreds of species of birds that fill the forest. Our lodge specializes in small groups and individualized attention in our primary quest to conserve the lake and surrounding rainforest.

rosa2026-05-13Verificada I will definitly go back Highly Recommended!!! It was a difficult choice to travel to Manu for 7 days and 6 nights with my friends, but we searched and found Inkamazonia to be the most reliable company with nature conservation projects, which motivated us even more to travel with them. The entire transportation service was excellent, as was the food, which was phenomenal thanks to our chef, Alex, who prepared the best meals. Our guide, Lincoln, the owner of the company, kept us informed at all times about everything we saw, such as insects, frogs, birds, and mammals. He was born in the Manu rainforest and knew everything perfectly, and he was also very entertaining throughout the trip. We will return to visit another natural gem that was mentioned to us, and we will definitely travel with Inkamazonia again. David S2026-05-12Verificada Manu 5D/4N I took the 5-day, 4-night Manu tour with Inkamazonia and I chose the best option for this tour. Jhaila was our cook who made amazing food, everything we needed. Our driver, Abner, was fantastic; he knew the route very well. Our guide, Lincoln, was incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, had the eyes of an eagle for spotting birds, animals, and insects, and was especially cheerful. And what can I say about our guide, Lincoln? He was an expert on Manu. The accommodations at the lodge were fantastic, and the food was extraordinary. Jhaila has a magical touch; her cooking is delicious. I highly recommend traveling with Inkamazonia. Cecilia L2026-04-30Verificada ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Great way to see the Amazon! What an excellent experience! My friend and I completed the 4D 3N tapiri lodge stay. The transport from our initial accomodation in Manaus out to the lodge was seamless. Our guide Lincoln was friendly, professional and knowledgable. For two young women we felt very safe. All the people that work to make the expedition happen were very accomodating. The food provided was great as well! We were able to see such rich wildlife from birds to sloths and caymans. There was a nice stretch of downtime at the hottest part of the day and then out for a different activity on the boat. It was a great adventure, I would recommend this trip with friends or family. I would definitely return to do wiTh INKAMAZONIA. 迪 武2026-04-29Verificada Don't miss the birdwatching trip with Lincoln My two days birdwatching with Lincol were definitely the most memorable experience of my time in Peru. The harpy eagle is one of the bird species I most wanted to see during my birdwatching journey. Lincol knew its condition very well. The trip wasn't easy; we had to cross about 10 streams, but Lincol always provided encouragement. When you finally see the eagle, it's all worth it. Lincol's garden was another unmissable surprise. Koepcke's Hermit, White-bearded Hermit, Buff-tailed Sicklebill, Rufous-crested Coquette… all sorts of rare hummingbirds regularly visit. There's even a resident king vulture! A close encounter of about 10 meters was truly unbelievable. But what I really want to say is that Lincol is a very user-centric and considerate person. Knowing I was a solo traveler on a limited budget, he offered a more cost-effective birdwatching plan and even arranged excellent value accommodations and meals. This made the whole trip perfect. I'm very happy to have become friends with Lincoln, and I sincerely recommend him to all birdwatching enthusiasts. elora a2026-03-14Verificada Génial Licolne nous a acceptés tout de suite pour faire du volontariat à l'observatoire. I had the opportunity to take a 4-day tour in this wonderful place, and the experience was simply unforgettable. From the very first moment, the connection with nature made each day special: breathtaking landscapes, fresh air, and a tranquility that truly rejuvenates the soul. The food was excellent, varied, and prepared with great care, making each meal an important part of the experience. Furthermore, the staff were incredibly kind, always willing to help and make everyone feel at home. The place is very comfortable, clean, and welcoming, perfect for relaxing after each day of adventure. Without a doubt, it's a destination I highly recommend for those looking to disconnect, enjoy nature, and have an authentic experience. Curiosity518380165282025-11-17Verificada A lot of wildlife spotting! Excellent guide! Wonderful accomodations and food! The excursion was wonderful straight from the beginning. We were picked up from our hostel in Cusco and then started the ride down to the jungle. On the way down we spotted many types of birds and monkeys, Lincol our guide was excellent, he found, showed and explained to us about the wildlife enthusiasticly. Without him our tour would totally be lacking, he enhanced our experience tremendously. Americo our driver was the best and Flor our chef made delicious and plenty of food. We are vegan and they completely accommodated us. The lodges we stayed at were wonderful emersing us in the jungle experience but at the same time providing clean showers and beds to rest at the end of the day. The itinerary was interesting and entertaining, taking us to beautiful places and seeing a lot of wildlife. Over a hundred different species! This trip was our best experience in Peru! We loved it!
